Baby's Hospital Hat - Fingering Weight





Notions
US#2 dpns – set of 4
KnitPicks Comfy Fingering or any soft fingering weight yarn – 50g will make 4 hats approx. Each hat takes approximately 12.5 grams.
1 stitch marker
tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Size
Newborn – circumference 10"; depth 4.75"

 Glossary
ssk – slip 1 st, slip 2nd stitch, knit them together through the back loops
sts – stitches
P – purl
K – knit
I-cord ; *k all stitches, move stitches to the front of the needle, pull yarn tightly* repeat from * until desired length is achieved.

Gauge
7 sts and 10 rows = 1" in stockinette stitch on US #2 needle. Adjust needle size to achieve gauge.



Pattern
Using the long tail cast on method, cast on 70 sts and divide them on three dpns as follows: 24 sts, 23 sts, 23 sts. Join in the round, placing a marker to denote the beginning of the round.
Round 1, 3, 5, 7, 9: P
Round 2, 4, 6, 8, 10: K
Rounds 11 – 29: K
Round 30: *ssk, k8* repeat from * to end of round
Round 31: *ssk, k7* repeat from * to end of round
Round 32: *ssk, k6* repeat from * to end of round
Round 33: *ssk, k5* repeat from * to end of round
Round 34: *ssk, k4* repeat from * to end of round
Round 35: *ssk, k3* repeat from * to end of round
Round 36: *ssk, k2* repeat from * to end of round
Round 37: *ssk, k1* repeat from * to end of round
Round 38: *ssk* repeat from * to end of round (7 sts)
Round 39 – 49: work as for I-cord
Round 50: Bind off all sts and weave in tail.
Tie I-cord top into a knot. Weave in cast-on tail. Wet block lightly. Enjoy!


Hello Friends! 
I thought I should write down my little hospital hat I so enjoy making. This version is for sock or fingering weight yarn and works up to be newborn size (5 - 7lb baby). 

I hope you enjoy and whip a few up for your own babies or friend's babies - there is nothing like a knitted hat.
