Foggy days...

Ah, the last months of pregnancy are so foggy aren't they? I'm deep in the midst of the fog. Sometimes a few tears are shed early in the morning as I wonder how I'm going to have the energy to make it to the end of the day. In the middle of the day there are those whispered prayers for endurance and at the end of the day there are the words of thanks and gratefulness that we made it through.

And yet, we are in the midst of the most beautiful and glorious days of summer. The temperatures have settled back down to a very unusual moderate temp. John and I have spent whole days on the back deck or out in the yard. I've been frustrated that I haven't been able to take long walks with him - I'm trying to keep contractions at bay - at least until week 36, after that I plan on resuming a few walks.

I've managed to finish baby's dresser - cream with green inside. Wish I had taken pictures of the "before". The dresser was purchased on Craig's List for $20 and was so old it had square nails! I had never seen square nails before.

Baby's log cabin blanket is finished - I'm so pleased and love the result. It was made with KnitPicks wonderful Wool of the Andes sport.

And my spinning experiment from the "Spinning Dyed Fiber" class I took on Craftsy is completed. I love how  different spinning techniques can produce totally different results even when you start with the same fiber! BTW the lovely fiber was from On The Round.

And so our summer continues. John starts preschool in two weeks .... I have very mixed feelings about this new stage in life.... everything goes too fast, doesn't it?

Tour de Fleece

I haven't officially, officially been participating in the Tour de fleece this year, but I've been spinning more than usual, which I suppose does count for something.

I love how spinners all over the world set aside time during the month of July to spin - it's almost like someone giving you permission to indulge yourself a little and create! Love it!

I've been spinning from my stash - although I realized I don't have much fiber. Hmmm... seems I've only had time for yarn in recent years. I rectified that with a purchase from On the Round' s lovely shop. ooo, I forgot how lovely Blue Face Leicester fiber is to spin with! So gorgeous!

There is just something about creating yarn that is lovely. John is terribly interested and every now and again climbs in my lap to spin. I wonder if it will stick?

I took the lovely class over on Craftsy about spinning with color and have been experimenting with fractal spinning - love the result!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend! I have plans to take in a Knit and Crochet show, set up the nursery for baby and of course, knit. We'll see how much I get done!

Yarn Along - Pop Spots Shawl

Hello Friends! It's been a few weeks since I last posted. The third trimester has certainly caught up on my and I'm back in the fog of baby brain.

But, between 4th of July festivities, VBS week and hosting some college friends of JK's for the weekend I have managed to finish a few knits! Oooo, isn't it lovely when you finish something and it comes off the needles dazzling you as it did in the photos that first enticed you to begin the knit.

My pop spots shawl is just one of those knits. It's going to be fantastic this fall! Oodles of coverage and swing. One of those really scrumptious knits that make you feel like a knitting goddess!

On the baby knits front I just finished the Garter Stitch baby kimono by Joji. I knit it out of Misti Alpaca - ooo, it's so soft and squishy!

I added a I-cord edge to it - love that little detail. And the sky blue buttons... ah, big sigh. For some reason I love that too.

For the matching garter stitch had I made a modified version of Kristen Nicolas' Quarters Cap. I love that pattern because it is so much fun to knit ... and it uses up leftovers! Fabulous! I modified it to fit a newborn and use fingering weight. I think it came out smashing, don't you?

Ah, what am I reading? Call the Nurse came in for me at the library so I'm currently reading about life on a cold and windy isle! Kind of fun during the midst of our hot, hot summer.

I hope you all are well and enjoying the blaze of mid summer!

Yarn Along

Happy Wednesday!
It's always fun when you have a new finished project fresh off the needles, isn't it? I recently finished my Mondo Cable Cardi. I made the short sleeve version and knit it out of some luscious Madeline Tosh Vintage colorway Fragrant. It's delightfully squishy and comfy!

One of the joys of summer for me is to stock up on a few new hand knits for fall. Some people like to knit shawls or socks during the summer - but there is nothing like a few new sweaters when the cold mornings begin in earnest.

What am I reading? Well, I've started Needles and Pearls by Gil McNeil but so far I've been a little disappointed - a little too much unnecessary language. I'm always puzzled by the insertion of swear words into a "cozy" book. What do they intend to achieve by it.

Another book I'm about to dive into is "Echos of Eden." I'm looking forward to that book as my mother has already told me bits here and there.

I have a few baby knits coming down the pike but to tide you over let me show you this adorable onesie with  matching yarn my knitting friend gave me last night.

Isn't it fantastic? I'm having a hard time deciding what to knit to correspond with the onesie - a hat, little shorts, a little vest? While I take my time deciding I have it hanging wear I can enjoy looking at it. Eye candy, you know! =)

And... as the Tour de Fleece progresses I do have a skein of yarn to show you:

Some raspberry sherbet looking yarn, don't you think? It was roving from Breezy Manor Farms - her farm blend with a bit of this and that all mixed up. I have more to ply - looks like I'll have a hefty skein when I'm done. At least enough for a lovely shawl!

So that's the knitting/reading news in my corner. What have you been up to?

A bit of fluff...and stuff

Hello Friends! how are you? It's a rather gray day here - no rain yet (that was yesterday and last night). I'm watching the bees and the hummingbirds busy themselves in my garden, sucking the nectar from my bee balm. Little John is napping so I have stolen a few moments for myself.

The third trimester exhaustion has finally hit. For some reason I thought I was going to escape it - silly me. The second trimester is so deceptive isn't. Along with the exhaustion has come the immense desire to get ready for baby. Ha! Those too things don't go together do they?

Nonetheless a few closets have been cleaned out, a dresser is being painted for baby, and some more baby knits have been put on the list to knit.

But... some yarn was also organized and laid out on my little desk.

And some fiber. As a treat to myself (and to force myself to take a break) I've enrolled in "Spinning Dyed Fibers" with Felica Lo on Craftsy! It is W O N D E R F U L! Talk about a break through in color and how to spin! I'm so excited after going through the whole class I've signed up for the Tour de Fleece - we'll see how far I get. I've only signed up for the rookie team.

I'll have some knitting to show you soon!
Hope you all are doing well!
